some say the conditions were so bad people slept on the open deck in a makeshift tent city. passengers complained of overflowing toilets, unsanitary conditions and had to use the bathroom in buckets and plastic bags. up to 100 awaiting buses took passengers to hotels in new orleans and texas. many were tired and just happy to be on dry land after the horrific ordeal at sea. >> i feel like they did their very best. well, they made a lot of mistakes because they didn't have the tugboats come out, the tow boats come out immediately. we felt it was too big of a delay, but we also -- i felt like they tried hard. the crew was amazing. >>reporter: carnival now admits the triumph had been plagued with mechanical problems in the weeks leading up to the engine room fire. dozens of planned voyages have now been canceled and a 14- story ship is head today a mobile shipyard for assessment. the national transportation safety board has also opened an investigation. the cruise line said it would give passengers a full refund, discounts on future cruises and another $500 in compensation. car
